A long-time participant in the American chess community known for his deep commitment to growing the game across the Midwest and beyond, Rodney Malpert has ongoing involvement in events and initiatives in cities such as Omaha, Dallas, and Phoenix. A senior master and retired lawyer, Rodney Malpert has focused in recent years on supporting scholastic chess programs and helping organize local tournaments, particularly in Nebraska.

Mr. Malpert has also participated in regional competitions like the Cornhusker State Games and has been involved with the Omaha High School Chess League. His contributions include offering students both mentorship and competitive opportunities. He was also invited to award major honors at local tournaments, including trophies for best move, biggest upset, and standout performances by unrated players.

Residing primarily in Dallas, Texas, and Lincoln, Nebraska, Mr. Malpert balances his chess endeavors with roles as a venture capitalist, business migration expert, and political science and law professor. He has taught at institutions including SMU Law School, Arizona State Law School, Buena Vista University, the University of Nebraska, and Cornell University. He currently divides his time between Dallas, Texas, and Lincoln, Nebraska, where he continues to support chess activities while working in other professional capacities.
